A month in review

Hi there!

So, this is the first time I actually have a second post in the same month! I must be really serious about it this time 😀

So last time, I think I mentioned a bit of dying that I wanted to share.

I dyed 200 grams of superwash merino fiber, which wants to be my first handspun socks when it grows up:

Also, I have been experimenting with different colorways on sock yarn, and this is what I came up with this month:

In July, we always have many places to go, lots of festivals, games, etc

This years HFL (Hungarian Football League) final, the Hungarian Bowl was a very exciting game, even though we were rooting for the losing team, we had a lot of fun! And not the least, I also finished two half socks that I started at the beginning of the game!

Also, we wentto Veszprémi Utcazene Fesztivál, where they have all kinds of street musicians. Every year, we have the most fun, we meet the best musicians,and we always find music that we fall in love with, most of the time before they become famous.

During all this craziness, I finished my July socks for the boxosoxkal hosted by Voolenvine. I’m already starting n my August socks, for which I don’t really have a pattern yet..

I used part of the Frasier Fir pattern by Verena Cohrs. Onlythe cable part, since I already knit over the heel. I planned on doing an Evergreen, but I totally failed to realize that it was top-down.. I thought about modifying the pattern to be bottom-up, but I totally wasn’t up for doing the math… Oh, well, I’ll still do he evergreen once.

Christmas knitting, project bags and podcasts

I was a very bus girl this week as the picture shows. First up, I made a couple of project bags. For these, I tried a new to me interfacing, Vilene S320. I love that the stand up on their own and have a very crisp professional look, but for me, it’s kind of too crunchy. I like the one that I made with fusible fleece much more, but that one is a bit too soft. So, today. I’m off to the fabric store to look for some thicker fusible fleece type thing.

Overall I do really love them, and the Christmas prints make me feel the holiday vibe finally!

I’m still very much into socks :) These were done since my last post!

The yarn is actually some very cheep sock yarn from Lidl – a grocery store that offers seasonal items, like yarn sometimes. Whenever thy have sock yarn, it comes in packs of 4 50g skeins, usually with two colors. Last time, they actually had some pretty nice colors (usually it’s more grey self-patterning stuff), so I got 4 packs!

I can get my average vanilla sock out of 36 grams of main color and 12 grams of contrast color for toes, heels and cuffs, so this amount of yarn will give me 3 pair/pack! Great deal for about 8 dollars!

I like doing them toe up. I pick up 2×14 stitches with Judy’s magic cast on, increase up to 60 stitches, knit 60 rows, do a fish lips kiss heel, knit 50 more rows, then do 20 rows of k1p1 rib, and bind of with either Jeny’s surprisingly stretchy bind off, or a tubular bind off.

I also worked on my soon to be MIL’s shawl, which will be her Christmas present. My fiancé picked the yarn, Nina’s threads, cloud base in Miners’ dream. It is a lovely dark variegated colorway, with little pops of lighter yellows and turquoises. I had it done up to the lace in about 4-5 days, and then I put it aside because it was no longer portable. Since I’m on vacation this week, I finally have time to finish it.

The pattern is Eyeblink, a free pattern on Ravelry. What I like about it is that it is easily adjustable for our amount of yarn. I switched to the lace section when I had half of my ball left. I’ve already done this pattern once recently for myself.

Finally,I worked on my cozy memories blanket! I started in the spring but only had about 10 squares before putting it away. For the past couple of weeks, I’ve gotten bored with Netflix, since they don’t have such a big variety as they do in the US, so I have been watching podcasts most of the time. And of course, everybody’s doing the cozy memories, so I had to do it too! Mine only has 36 squares, but seeing everyone else’s blankets inspire me. I do mine with 31 stitch squares, which makes the fast and it doesn’t really take up a significant amount of yarn. A 10 gram mini-skein can give me up to 5 squares!

My favorite podcast last week was the Knitting Expat Podcast with Mina. She knits beautifully and soo fast! I love seeing her projects, and also she recorded their move to NYC recently, which was interesting to see. Go check her out if you haven’t!

Well that is about it, but I will have some more very soon! I plan to dye some Christmas sock yarn also this week, and knit some more quick Christmas presents.
